R&P This Is The End trailer analysis

The film is directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and features actors such as James Franco Seth Rogan and cameos from Emma Watson, Channing Tatum and Rihanna. This helps to attract an audience from fans of those actors and the directors, as well as people that like comedy films.

The plot is based around the end of the world events and the main characters have to barricade themselves inside of a house to survive, with only a few bottles of water, lots of beer and a few food items. This is a typical setting for a horror/action/syfi/comedy film. The breaking of the equilbrium is the end of the world event, and even though the trailer does not explicity sayit, but one would assume that the main characters have to save the world. The narative theroy that the film confoms closest to is Todorov's theory. The start shows a stalbe state of equlibrium and then the equlibrium is disrupted and the characters have to survive, as well as restore the equlibrium. The film does not conform to propps theroy as it has no defined hero, villan or any of the roles, its almost like all of the main characters play the heros and a few of the other character types come and go briefly.

The rest of the setting starts of with a house party setting, with all of the character enjoying themselves, then the setting sudendly changes to a fire ridden apocylisps setting. The contrast between the two settings amplifies the main setting which is the apocalyptic setting. This makes the audience see that the events happening are, well, "serious".

The sound that is in the trailer has a background rap track the plays almost thoughout the entirety of the trailer. The track at the beggining helps to make the begginging of the film seem very light hearted and easy going, but the track continues over to the second setting of the trailer, which helps to keep the audience in the mid set of that this film is a comedy and not as serious action film. The dialouge in the film is small snippets of the film, which help to give the audience a small outlibne opf the plot of the film, buit not give it away completely.

The costumes which the characters are wearing in the film are very typical of average american people, as the film is based around the actors playing themselves. The setting is typical is said before and every thing else is very typical of a modern American film.

The camera angles that are used in the trailer are fairly simple as well. As there is not really any complicated fight or chase scenes, the camera angles can be kept simple and the match on action is limited to talking scenes. A more wide vairity of camera angles woulf have made the film more technically impressive, but the whole poimnt of a comedy is to entertain, and making it more technically impressive would not have added entertainment value, therfore making it pointless.

R&P Skyfall Poster analysis

The main selling point of the film which is utilized in the poster is James Bond franshise. The main charcter, James Bond played by Daniel Craig, is the centre of attention in the centre of the poster. Another icon feature of the franshise is the Aston Martin, which is also pictured in the poster. The last iconic feature in the poster is Big Ben in the background. The poster utilses the icon features of the franshise to help attract an audience that are fans of the franshise or like the idea of a action spy hero, which he is identifed by the clothes he is wearing, the typical spy uniform.

The colour of the poster help the audience identify that the film is set in the past. The poster is in a monochrome black and white, which is not just eye catching, but is also a time period indicator. The colour of the poster also helps to make it stand out from the crowd, adding to the films sell-ability.

The genre is subtly conveyed using the franchise and the addition of the gun that he is holding. The James Bond line of films is notorious for its action genre, the the addition of the gun in the poster helps people that have not seen the films before Skyfall. This poster helps to make the film appeal to those that are a fan of the franchise, and those that are not.

The Font that is used in the title of the is relatively plain and the colour of the poster; the black and white theme. This makes the title eye catching, but does not steal the entire poster. This is done so that first thing that the audience look at is the image of James Bond, then their attention is turned to the name of the film.

At the bottom of the poster is the institutional information. This information is located at the bottom of the poster because, simply, it is not eye catching and nobody really wants to see it, however, the information needs to be on the poster to advertise the

R&P Django Unchained trailer analysis

One of the main selling points of the film is the director, Quentin Tarantino, who has directed other films such as Pulp fiction and Reservoir Dogs.Tarantino has a very specific style that carries over thoughout all of his films. This style of his appeals to many audiences, which means that fans of his other films, will want to go and see Django. Tarantino's style glorifies violence which makes many of his films controversial but they still appeal to a large audience.

The film is not a conventional western film, there is no dedicated hero and the hero's "sidekick" is not conventional at all and has a huge role to play in the film. The sidekick in the film is actually a bounty hunter and saves the hero at the beggining of the film, and plays a major role in the rest of the film. Django is not a conventional

R&P G I Joe trailer analysis

G.I Joe features some big actors, such as Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum and Bruce Willis to name a few. Having big actors that have stared in other big blockbusters helps to attract a bigger audience as many people will see any film that comes out with there favourite actor in, the more big name actor that a film has, the larger the potential audience is. The actors that appear in a film can have a big impact on whether a film is a total success, or a complete failure.

The film is a very typical action film, with large Hollywood exploisions and lots of guns and gun fights, as well as a few exploding helicopters thrown into the mix. This kind of thing is very stereotypical of Hollywood action films that help to attract an audience of all ages, hopefully making the film more successful. All of the actors in the film (those that are G.I Joe's) are all wearing army style camouflage, which is a trait carried over from the original G.I Joe action figures from the 60's. Not only does this help the characters not drift away from there origins, but also helps to attract an audience, because where there is army gear there is guns, and where there is guns there is gunfights, which attract the audience.

The plot of the story is quite elaborate in the fact that the G.I Joe'shave to save the entire world from some evil power that is not disclosed in the trailer, which helps to leave the audience guessing on what the things ios that they are trying to destroy. The trailer follows a

R&P Action Film White House Down

The director of the film, who is a well known and respected director, who directed films such as "The Day After Tomorrow" and "2012". This makes he film very appealing to the audience, as they

The begginging of the trailer starts with using special effects to make the video "break up" casuing artifacts, making the video look more technoligically orientated, which would make it appeal to a younger audicne.

R&P Romance Safe Haven analysis

The story conforms to Propp's narative theroy, with the hero being the character played by Josh Duhamel and the princess played by Julianne Hough. The story begins with a disequillibrium where by the princess is being hunted a balck figure and a detective and flees the city to find herself in a rural community. All this at the very start of the trialer set up an enigma code where by the audice are left wondering why the girl is running and who is chasing her; this links to the sub genre of the film, a romance thriller. The questions that arise from theese events at the very start of the film grip the audience making them want answers to the questions, which in turn, will make them want to watch the whole film. The resolution of the issue and the restoration is not shwon in the trailer as that would give away the entie film. Thet trailer shows enough of the plot to grip the auience, but not enough to give away the story.

The unique selling point of the film is the author of the book, Nicholas Sparks, who also wrote the best selling "The Notebook". This would mean that any fans of the book, would be interested in the film, which would help to attract an audience. The director of the film, also directed "The Cider House Rules" and "Chocolat". This means that the potential target audience is huge. Another was in which the producers tryed to attract an audience was the release date, which was February, near to valentines day, which means that people would be more interested in seeing the film. The fact that it is being released in Feburary is made very clear in the trailer.

The trailer uses contrasting lighting during it to make the place the main character was before getting on the bus and going to the "safe haven" .

R&P "The Hobbit" Empire Analysis (audience theroy)

The front cover of the magazine is not really typical of one that is featuring a film, simply because the main character of the film that it is featuring is not even featured on the front cover, this is most likely because "The Hobbit" is a spin off from the very popular "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy, and putting the main character from "The Hobbit" on the fron page would mean that only the die hard fans of the film would recognize the character, instead, one of the main characters from the original trilogy and who appears in the "The Hobbit" means that anyone who has seen "The Lord of the Rings" films would instantly know who the character is. This is a really good marketing tactic as it would have given the film a much wider audience.

"The Hobbit" title on the middle of the page is in the same colour as the "Empire" title which make the entire page look very clean and eye catching. "The Hobbit" title is located in the center of the page and is also bigger than the empire title, which means that it attracts the readers eye straight away.

R&P Mirrors Poster Analysis

R&P Romance The Vow

The trailer first starts out with introducing the main characters, however at the start of the trailer it does not show who is the hero and the princess, although one can make a good guess.
The trailer then continues on until the equilibrium is disrupted, as is stated in todorov's theroy and the hero has to find a way to make his wife, who has forgotten everything, fall in love with him again.
The trailer, like most trailers gives away alot of the plot, however it does not give away the ending, meaning that the audience will have to see the film to find out the ending.

Mise en scene is used to create the atmosphere that the director intended. Before the accident, the film is bright and colourful, with the characters looking like they are enjoying themselves, bright filters are used to emphasise this. After the accident, the mood changes, with the rooms being darkly lit, especially in the hospital which are the shots directly after the accident shots. This gives a much more dark and depressing feel to the audience.

The music used also contrasts between before and after accident. Before the accident, the music makes the audience feel happy, but after the accident, the music stops, making the audience feel tense as the atmosphere changes completely, the music then comes back in which helps to lighten the mood back up again and give a sense of hope.

The lighting is also used effectively to emphasise the feelings the director is trying to portray. The lighting used in the beginning before the accident is bright and colourful, the lighting then changes to blue filtered dark light in the hospital, making the scene more tense and engaging to the audience, this helps to grip the audience and make them want to watch on to see the outcome. After the tense moments in the hospital, lighting is switched back to bright and colourful to give the audience hope and lighten up the mood, just as the music does.

The release date, as shown at the end of the trailer, is valentines day, which is a typical release date for a romance film, as it its targeting couples and a younger audince, and it would make sense to release the film on valentines day.

The titles used are few and far between, except from the really cheesy actors credits rarely seen in big films, with the actors coming up in a bull shot as their names appear on the screen, but i guess if you are interested in seeing this film, you probably wouldn't care anyway.

R&P Horror film The Grudge

The main character in The Grudge is Karen, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar and features other actor such as Jason Behr and William Mapother. Most of the actors in the film have not really been in many popular big blockbusters however some have features in other things, such as William Mapother featuring in the popular US TV show Lost. Sarah Michelle Gellar has also featured in popular TV shows such as The Simpsons and American Dad. The director of the Grudge, Takashi Shimizu has also not directed any big blockbuster and does not have a proven track record like most directors. This means that the actors or the director do not really bring in a unique selling point for the film.

The plot is based around an American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim. This is a very typical horror film plot with some kind of supernatural force affecting a normal person and the person who the force is effecting has to try and stop it from happening.
It is hard to determine which narrative theory best represents this film as the trailer does not give much away about the plot of the film, but I would assume the evil power taking over the main character to be the disruption of the equilibrium and the main character has to try and restore the equilibrium before she is killed. If this is the case then the film would fit into the Todorov narrative theory. There is not defined hero in the trailer so i can't say that it also conforms to Propp's narrative theory.

The setting of the film is based in Tokyo with the focus of attention centered around one house in particular. The setting of the film is dark and gloomy, even the parts of the trailer that are light still feel like they are dark, mostly though the use of heavy shadows and colour correction. The trailer shows a few of the locations, inside and outside of the house the film is centered around, this helps the audience establish the setting which helps to make the film more engaging. The dark colours of the sets make the audience feel all on edge and this helps to make the trailer more watchable. The setting of the trailer also makes it really easy for the audicne to establish the genre of the film, the dark hallways and weird sightings of some domented creature make it really easy to see that this is the trailer for a horror film, which in turn is one of the unique selling points of the film as not that many big horror films are released a year compared to a genre such as action or adventure.

The costumes that the characters are wearing in the trailer are the same thing anyone would be wearing when the film was released, 2004, this makes the film a lot more relate-able to the audience, which in turn makes the film more appealing.

The soundtrack behind the visuals of the trailer are a weird kind of spooky semi musical load of instruments being played. This helps the audience to identify the genre of the film and push the unique selling point of the film. The music also helps to build up the suspence of the trailer making the audience want to continue watching the trailer and maybe even see the full film.

R&P Horror Film Mirrors

The start of the trailer shows very conventional horror film structure which conform to Todorov's theory of a disruption of the equilibrium which is the events with the mirrors, which is also indicated by the title of the film. The disruption of the equilibrium sets the scene for the rest of the trailer, of which the hero is fighting, which also conforms with Propp's narrative theory, with the main character being the hero, and the other characters as the princesses, of which the hero has to try and save.

The setting for the film is dark and gloomy, which is a typical setting for a horror film, but the location of the film is not given away in the trailer. The use of mise en scene in the setting and lighting increases the suspense of the film gripping the audience. The lighting is very dark with some of the items in the abandoned building being illuminated to draw the audiences attention to them, such as key bits of information like the hand print in the mirror. The filter used in the trailer has a blue tint, which again adds to the suspense of the trailers as it makes everything look more gloomy. The whole setting is very cliche making it appeal to an audience that enjoys horror films.

The titles of the film are reversed, which refers to the titles of the film, as the appear as if you were looking at them in the mirror, from the ofset, this makes the audience feel immersed in the film.
The sound effects that are added in the film include glass breaking in the more intense parts of the trailer, with music added in the other parts to build suspence before and after the intense scene to keep the tension and the audience engaged.

The credit titles used in the trailer include the director and the actors at the start, which means that people into films may be familiar with the actors or the director and want to see the film just because they enjoyed the actors or directors in a previous films that they have seen.

The trailer is designed to grip the audience, of which it does because it uses techniques to grip the audience and make the audience them want to see the rest of the film. Buy using snippets of the film in the trailer it gives enough of the story away to give away the whole plot.
